Your water matters!
H2knOw.info is proud to sponsor The Water Awareness and Improvement Campaign. Our local Water Technicians are currently conducting FREE on-site water test to educate and inform the public to an ongoing threat. On almost a daily basis news stories are published regarding dangers in our tap water and yet many people continue to blindly trust their tap water. Just ask the residents of towns like Flint Michigan, who will never recover from the effects of water contamination. Knowing is half the battle... Find out what's in your water for free by clicking on the button below and filling out the online form!
Water is truely one of our greatest resources.
We use it for so many things: Drinking, bathing, cooking, cleaning not to mention industrial processes.
But do you really know what's hiding in your water?
Water is natures great solvent. and because of that many things can be hiding in plain sight.
on this site we will explore the nature of water and seek to inform and empower people just like you and me to the many wonders, and potential problems, that we face with water in this modern age.
WATER, A SUBSTANCE COMPOSED OF THE CHEMICAL ELEMENTS HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN AND EXISTING IN GASEOUS, LIQUID, AND SOLID STATES. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST PLENTIFUL AND ESSENTIAL OF COMPOUNDS. A TASTELESS AND ODOURLESS LIQUID AT ROOM TEMPERATURE, IT HAS THE IMPORTANT ABILITY TO DISSOLVE MANY OTHER SUBSTANCES.
where does our water come from?
When water starts off as rain its in its purest form.
However as it falls to the ground it collects any pollution that's in the air, such as smog.
When it hits the ground it collects whatever it comes into contact with, such as contaminants from roads and parking lots, fertilizer and insecticides from agricultural areas, animal waste, industrial and pharmaceutical waste, and sewage and waste runoff from humans.
All this ends up in our rivers, streams, lakes and wells. This is where our water supply comes from.
This is where we run into a problem!
excert from an article by the WQA (Water Quality Association)
"ONLY 1% OF WATER TREATED AT THE TREATMENT PLANT IS USED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. THE OTHER 99% IS USED TO FLUSH TOILETS, WATER LAWNS AND FOR AGRICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES."
to clean all the water to the best level possible with todays technology at the water treatment plant isn't financially feasible, or for that matter necessary, when you consider 99% isn't for human consumption. Remember, only 1% being treated is used for Human consumption! However, water treatment plants can't seperate the two. therefore all water is treated to a basic level of "exceptability". Unfortunately, this basic level has a lot left to be desired.
This is why the WQA recommends consumers take resonsability for the quality of the water entering their homes. Its far more cost effective than trying to solve the problem on a large scale. Even if the water treatment center could clean the water to its purest level it would still have to travel through miles of aging underground pipes. What is neeeded is a "Final Barrier Solution."
"FINAL BARRIER TREATMENT" REFERS TO ACTIONS THE CONSUMER CAN TAKE AT THE POINT OF ENTRY INTO THE HOME OR BUSINESS. UNDER FINAL BARRIER TREATMENT THE WATER SUPPLY WOULD BE TREATED ONCE AT THE WATER TREATMENT PLANT TO ENSURE THE OVERALl WELL BEING OF THE PUBLIC, AND AGAIN AT THE END POINT BY MEANS OF THE CONSUMER. THIS ALLOWS THE CONSUMER TO BE IN CHARGE AND TO DECIDE WHATS exceptable FOR THEM.
Here are a few things to be on the lookout for
What is Hard water?
Hard water is water that has high mineral content (in contrast with "soft water"). Hard water is formed when water percolates through deposits of limestone, chalk or gypsum which are largely made up of calcium and magnesium carbonates, bicarbonates and sulfates
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)
Total dissolved solids (TDS) is a measure of the dissolved combined content of all inorganic and organic substances present in a liquid in molecular, ionized, or micro-granular (colloidal sol) suspended form. TDS concentrations are often reported in parts per million (ppm).
Do you know what your putting into your body? Find out with a home water test. If you have a problem we have very affordable solutions.
elevated levels of specific ions included in the TDS measurement, such as nitrate, arsenic, aluminum, copper, or lead, could present health risks.
the level of total dissolved solids in drinking water affects the taste of the water. Higher levels of TDS can make water taste bitter, salty or brackish.
We will determine your TDS level during your onsite free water test performed by one of our certified water technicians.
Chlorine in our water.
Chlorine's high risk
"Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain it." -U.S. Council on Environmental Quality
"10,700 new cases of bladder and rectal cancer occur each year from the presence of chlorine in our drinking water; two times the number that die in fires and more than those killed by guns." -American Medical Association
Putting chlorine in water supplies is like starting a time bomb. Cancer, heart trouble, premature senility; both mental and physical are conditions attributable to chlorine treated water supplies. It makes us grow old before our time by producing symptoms of aging, such as hardening of the arteries." -Dr. Herbert Schwarts, biological chemist
Chlorine is necessary to insure that the water coming through the treatment plant is safe for human consumption. However, it is not necessary to consume chlorine. Even if you don't drink tap water, you probably cook with it. Taking a 10 minute shower is the equivalent of drinking 8 glasses of raw tap water.
Chlorine is a lot like the plastic on a loaf of bread. Its there to keep it safe and free of contaminents. But you would never eat the plastic. We shouldn't be drinking the chlorine. Final Barrier treatments are available to remove the chlorine from the water before consumption.
THESE ARE A FEW OF THE MANY BENIFITS OF TREATING HARD WATER...
